Carlo, Keep Swingin'
After World War II, trumpeter and music theorist Carlo Bohländer founded the Domicile du Jazz in bombed-out Frankfurt, a hub for Germany’s jazz scene. By day it was a rehearsal space; by night, it hosted endless jam sessions filled with electrifying energy. Carlo’s genius, wit, and enthusiasm inspired everyone around him, attracting legendary jazz musicians from Germany and abroad, including Albert Mangelsdorff, Bill Ramsey, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, and even Louis Armstrong. The jazz cellar and Carlo helped bridge nations, bringing the world together—if only for one unforgettable jam session.
