Born in Kazakhstan in 1984, he was a theatre actor in Aktobe in Kazakhstan between 2002 and 2004 before studying film and television directing at the Kazakh National Academy of Arts. In 2007 he participated in the Asian Film Academy in Busan, South Korea. He is also an alumnus of the 2008 Berlinale Talent Campus. In 2013 his feature film "Uroki Garmoni" (Harmony Lessons") screened in competition at Berlinale.
