Ruby Commey was born on 29 July 1991 in Berlin. After finishing secondary school, she gained her first stage experience from 2011 to 2013 at the youth theater of the Deutsches Theater Berlin. In the years that followed, she appeared in several productions at the Kammerspiele, the smaller studio stage of the Deutsches Theater. From 2016 to 2019 she studied acting at the Berlin University of the Arts (Universität der Künste). During this time, she appeared, among other roles, as Miss Forsythe in Bastian Kraft's production of "Death of a Salesman" at the Deutsches Theater (2017). In 2019, she gained wider attention through the music video "Deutschland" by the band Rammstein, in which she portrayed Germania as a Black woman.
After graduating, Commey was engaged for two years at the Schauspiel Hannover starting with the 2019/20 season, followed by appearances at, among others, the Schauspiel Dortmund (2023), the Nibelungen Festival in Hagen (2023), and Berlin's Maxim Gorki Theater (2024/25).
From 2021 onward, Ruby Commey increasingly worked in film and television as well. She played a leading role in the culture-clash romantic comedy "Nächste Ausfahrt Glück – Familienbesuch" (2023, TV) and, in a smaller role, its sequels "Katharinas Entscheidung" (2023) and "Übers Ziel hinaus" (2024). In film, she was part of the ensemble in Irene von Alberti's feminist satire "Die geschützten Männer" ("The Protected Men," 2023) and had a leading role as the companion of a Berlin techno producer in the psychedelic, semi-documentary clubbing drama "Rave On" (2025). In 2026, alongside Thelma Buabeng, she appeared as a reluctant hostage-taker in Sheri Hagen's humanist tragicomedy "Billie".
