Biography

Austrian director, screenwriter and photographer Philipp Fussenegger, born in 1989 in Vorarlberg, became a photographer and copywriter in the advertising industry after studying classical piano at the music conservatory in Feldkirch. In 2010, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in directing in Salzburg, followed by studies at the renowned Cologne Academy of Media Arts. There he shot his highly acclaimed, 52-minute graduation film "Henry," which won the FIRST STEPS Award for best medium-length film.

In 2016, Fussenegger wrote, produced and directed the pilot film "Geld spielt keine Rolex" with Funfairfilms for the Austrian comedy series "Die Schilehrer," about the bizarre and not very youth-friendly escapades of two ski instructors on the Arlberg. He was successful as a producer with the film "Bester Mann" ("Main Man", directed by Florian Forsch), which won Best Medium-Length Film at the 2018 Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival and received a nomination for the 2019 Austrian Film Award.

In 2019, Fussenegger began shooting his feature film debut "I am the Tigress" (AT/DE), a documentary about an ambitious female bodybuilder. The film premiered in the (pandemic) online edition of the Max Ophüls Festival in January 2021 and was released in April 2022.
