Biography

Patricio Guzmán was born in Santiago de Chile in 1941. The director of the Chilean trilogy, "The Battle of Chile", is one of the great filmmakers of Latin American cinema. After the military coup against elected president Salvador Allende, Guzmán was amongst the people imprisoned in Santiago de Chile football stadium. He was able to get out of Chile in late November 1973, with the film material for his trilogy in his luggage. His documentary essay film "Nostalgia for the Light" won a European Film Award in 2010. He says "A land without documentary filmmaking is like a family without a photo album."
