Biography

Marie Rathscheck, born on 8 October 1990 in Stuttgart, studied Writing at the Berlin University of the Arts from 2010 to 2014. At the same time she began studying acting at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in 2013 and graduated in 2017. While still a student, she took part in two stage productions at the Volksbühne Berlin and gave her debut on the big screen in 2016: In Susanne Heinrich's experimental feature film "Das melancholische Mädchen" ("Aren't You Happy?") she played the title character. The film was released in German cinemas only three years later in 2019.     

After her graduation in 2017 Rathscheck became a member of the ensemble of the Schauspiel Leipzig. There she appeared on stage in "Paradies Fluten" (2018) and "Atlas" (2019). She had TV roles in four episodes of the series "Nix Festes" (2018) as a student in a shared flat in Berlin and in one episode of the crime series "SOKO Kitzbühel" (2018). In January 2019, "Das melancholische Mädchen" premiered at the Max Ophüls Preis film festival and won the award for best picture.
