Biography

Lea Becker was born in Munich in 1985 and studied graphic design at the University of the Arts in London until 2009, during which time she spent a semester at Cooper Union in New York. In 2012, she began studying documentary film and television journalism at the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF). During her studies she realized several commercials (e.g. for the Bavarian State Government) and short documentaries, as well as in 2015, together with Jakub Rzucidlo, the medium-length documentary "The Right Kind of Love", in which the two talk to therapists and victims of gay conversion therapy during a road trip through the USA. The film was screened at the International Hof Film Days.

Her short feature film "Jenny" (2017), about a 15-year-old who is sexually harassed by a new classmate, premiered at the Max Ophüls Preis Film Festival, where it received the Best Young Actor Award (Leonard Kunz). At the Short Film Week Regensburg, "Jenny" was awarded the Förderpreis des FilmFernsehFonds Bayern. It was also nominated for the German Short Film Award. In 2018, Becker's five-part web series "Hit and Run" also premiered at the Max Ophüls Preis Film Festival, as well as in 2020 her HFF graduation film "Der perfekte Run". In co-production with ZDF - Das kleine Fernsehspiel, the feature-length documentary explores what it feels like to grow up away from your family and follows three young professional snowboarders as they train for the World Championships.

This was followed by an episode of the crime series "SOKO Potsdam" (2020), the streaming youth series "Kitz" (2020), the thriller "Flügel aus Beton" (2021) and the four-part crime thriller "Höllgrund" (2021). In the summer of 2022, Becker began shooting her first feature film, "Get Up". The film is about two very different twin sisters who, together with two friends, want to win a skateboarding competition, but have to overcome all kinds of problems that arise from their joint venture. The film was theatrically released in the summer of 2023.
