Hans Block was born in Berlin in 1985. He first studied Music at the Universität der Künste and from 2010 on directing at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst 'Ernst Busch', both in Berlin. As a student, he realised his first projects, among others at the bat-Studiotheater (2011-2013) and at the Maxim Gorki Theater (2012/2013).

As a member of the collective "Unkoordinierte Bewegung", Block was invited to the "Radikal jung" festival at the Münchner Volkstheater with the play "Austrian Psycho" in April 2014. In the same year, he became a member of the artistic director team of the studio theatre "BOX" at the Schauspiel Frankfurt, where he also directed a number of plays. In 2015, his audio play "Don Don Don Quijote – Attackéee" (co-produced by the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst 'Ernst Busch') won the main prize at the international audio play festival "Prix Marulic".

Also in 2015, Hans Block became a member of the Laokoon group, a collective of artists and scientists who develop cross media story-telling formats that was founded by his friend Moritz Riesewieck. The first documentary feature by the duo Block and Riesewieck premiered at the Sundance Festival in the USA in January 2018: "The Cleaners" shows the daily work of so-called content moderators who are mostly based in Manila and check Facebook and other social media networks for offensive content that needs to be deleted. The film was released in German cinemas in May 2018.
