Biography
Born in Görlitz on 9.10.1944, he took final school examinations and became a typesetter, subsequently taking up theatre studies. Following military service he took up studies in film at the College of Film and Television in Babelsberg, graduating in directing in 1971. He became an assistant director in 1973, and began directing at the DEFA Feature Film Studio in 1978. A freelance writer and director of television films and series since January 1991, his most recent work has largely been in documentary. He lives in Berlin.
