Biography

Andreas Geiger was born in Schwäbisch Gmünd on December 4th, 1969. From 1992 until 1997, he attended the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. He made his graduate work "San Quentin" (1998) under the supervision of lecturer Thomas Schadt. Since his graduation, Geiger has completed several documentaries for screen and television. "Fresh Art Daily", a portrait of Brooklyn artist Steve Keene, who rapidly churns out paintings and sells them at bargain prices, was screened in the Forum section of 2004 Berlin IFF.

In 2006, Geiger and Frank Scheuffele founded their production company Grünbach Film. Geiger's documentary "Punk im Dschungel" (2007), which follows a Swabian punkband on their tour of Indonesia, was nominated for the 2008 Grimme Award. Geiger's other works include "Gottes Werkzeug - Wunderheiler in Oberschwaben" (2008) and "Das Seniorengefängnis" (2009), a film about the first German prison to take into account the needs of elderly inmates.

Geiger's "Wochenendkrieger" premiered at the 2013 Filmkunstfest in Schwerin: The documentary portrays five men and women from different walks of life, who are dedicated participants in live action role-playing games. The film was released theatrically in the summer of 2013.
