Biography
Pavel Schnabel was born in Olomouc, Czechoslovakia, in 1946 and grew up in Liberec (Reichenberg). He studied at the Film and Televison Academy in Prague (FAMU), then left his country in 1968. Since then, he has been living and working as a freelance director and cameraman in Germany. His favorite topics are emigration and exile, the European Jewry, minority reports and oral history. "The Violin" (short, 1985, Golden Ribbon of German Film Award), "A Turkish Wedding" (1988), "Brothers and Sisters" (1991), "Lisbon - Harbour Of Hope" (1994), "Happy Then, Still Glad Now" (1997) and "Grenzgänger" (1999).
