Töchter Europas

Deutschland 2023-2026 Dokumentarfilm

Summary

The documentary road-movie essay follows several women traveling across Europe by long-distance coach, their paths crossing at border checkpoints, in waiting halls, and along the continent's highways. A Spanish ticket clerk, a German-Luxembourgish bus driver, a Ukrainian domestic worker, and a Ukrainian mother traveling with her daughters each embody lives shaped by work, migration, family separation, and political upheaval. Some remain with the film only briefly, while others are followed over longer stretches of their journey. Again and again, the film reveals how bureaucracy, economic pressures, and war shape people's ability to move—and how quickly the promise of free movement comes to an end at national borders. Encounters are fleeting, yet the buses become temporary spaces of community. Nighttime journeys, roadside stops, and views through fogged-up windows set the film's rhythm, portraying migration as an ordinary, lived experience while showing how individual lives are continually redirected in the continent's spaces of transit.
