Film synopsis: The first remake of the classic 1913 film is largely based on the original screenplay by Hanns Heinz Ewers. Prague, in 1820: Student Balduin sells his mirror image to the mysterious profiteer Scapinelli. From then on, he lives in the lap of luxury and wins the heart of Countess Margit. When her fiancée, Baron Waldis-Schwarzenberg, learns about their relationship, he challenges Balduin to a duel. Balduin promises Margit and her father to save his opponent′s life, but instead of Balduin his mirror image takes part in the duel and kills the Baron. Thus, Balduin′s friends, including Margit, turn away from him. In his desperation, Balduin shoots the mirror and his reflection in it – and also dies from a fatal bullet to the heart.
