Jěchanje wo wosušk (1961)

Film documentation of the "Stollenreiten" (Upper Sorbian: jěchanje wo wosušk, Lower Sorbian: rejtowanje wó kołac) in Neu Zauche. The custom originally belongs to the harvest customs in Lower Lusatia. It is a riding competition of the male youth, which is held on a Sunday in summer on unsaddled horses on - the last harvested - field. The winner is the harvest king, "kral". In the film, the boys wear a white shirt with white trousers, the girls the traditional costume. They also perform games of skill afterwards.
One can see the preparations in the village, girls with foliage wreaths, the gathering of the riders, the departure from the village, preceded by the band, followed by the girls with flower arrangements and wreaths, then the riders. The riding competition follows on the stubble field, lined with spectators. The fastest riders receive flower arrangements and wreaths, the winner also decorates his horse with a wreath. Afterwards, the girls' fun takes place: Drinking contest, race, balloon blowing. Finally, the winning couples present themselves before returning to the village accompanied by the band.
