Neither on the Mountain nor on the Field

Gulzat Egemberdieva aims to create a visual dialogue between Kirgiz individuals from very different cultural backgrounds. By placing old archival materials and photographs, ethnographic sketches, self-made videos from the recent past and telephone conversations next to one another, she creates a complex visual reflection on the connected issues of freedom, historical memory and Kyrgyzstan's colonial past.
