Shalom Italia

Israel Deutschland 2015/2016 Dokumentarfilm

Summary

Documentary on three Jewish-Italian brothers, who were children when they and their family hid from the Nazis during WWII – in a cave in the woods of Tuscany, without any help from the outside, and for a whole winter period.  After the war, the family immigrated to Israel. More than seventy years later, the brothers return to Italy and search for the cave. Now aged 73, 82 and 84, their respective memories of the time in the cave differ extremely. While Emmanuel was traumatized by the experience and thus has never talked about it before, Andrea claims that he enjoyed it as a kind of adventure. Meanwhile Ruben was too young at the time and doesn't have any recollections of his own. From the disparate narratives of his siblings, he has to form his own perception of the past.
