Ruf der Wildgänse

Österreich 1961 Spielfilm

Summary

An Austrian melodrama based on the novel of the same name by Martha Ostenso. The criminal Amelia Jaspers finds refuge with the puritanical farmer Caleb Gale in the Canadian wilderness after her lover is killed in a shootout. Gale forces her to marry him and give up her son Mark, who grows up far away from his mother. As an adult, Mark stumbles upon his mother and her two daughters by chance. The three are still being tyrannized by Caleb, who wants to control the lives of Amelia and her daughters. Mark learns of his origins and the plight of his mother and half-sisters. Together with Sven Sandbo, the lover of the older daughter Judith, he manages to free all three from Caleb’s clutches; Caleb ultimately perishes in a fire on his farm.
