Tomorrow A Long Time Ago
At the Kyffhäuser, a mountain range in Thuringia where a decisive battle of the German Peasants' War was fought in 1525, the stories of three characters unfold across two timelines that repeatedly flow into one another. In 1990, the year of German reunification, fifty-year-old Patty loses her job at a film factory, and her friend Jelena moves to the West. Patty stays behind in the small town. She collects what those who have left leave behind and gets involved with Franz, a younger man who falls in love with her. When the things she has gathered block her way into her own apartment, she goes into the woods and disappears into a sunken lane where the rebel peasants were killed in 1525. Decades later, in the 2020s, Jelena returns to the area and relives 1990 in her dreams. Grace, a girl of about ten, is also growing up here. And Patty reappears, showing no visible signs of having aged.
