Summary

Composition in Blue

"Composition in Blue" is an abstract animation film showing geometrical shapes moving in front of an abstract plane to Carl Otto Nicolai′s "The Merry Wives of Windsor". The film was a great international success and a popular favourite at the Venice Biennale. In Germany, however, Fischinger was unable to find a distributor for his film, although he received a special licence by the film censorship office in spite of the widespread resentments against abstract art.
