Kayla - Mein Freund aus der Wildnis

Kanada Deutschland 1997/1998 Spielfilm

Summary

Kayla

Sam is in despair. His widowed mother has married for a second time and moved with Sam from Boston to her husband′s home in northern Canada. Asa, Sam′s step-father, is a hard-working, understanding village doctor, but Sam can only think of his father who was killed on an expedition. He doesn′t like Asa.

At his new home Sam keeps on hearing the howling of wild German shepherd dogs. After the first apprehensive encounters with the pack, Sam becomes friends with the leader. He decides to take part with the dog in the village′s big sledge race and calls him Kayla - after his father′s sledge dog. Together with the girl next door Jaynie, Sam builds a bobsled and begins training Kayla. Meanwhile, the villagers decide to kill the dogs who are killing game. When the violent-tempered August, Jaynie′s father, injures her as he tries one day to kill Kayla, Sam brings her at the last minute to his step-father. Kayla - who has been shot at - is also in mortal danger for several days. With Asa′s help, Sam nurses his dog back to health and, on the big day of the race, Sam and Kayla pass the winning-post as the glorious victors.
