Summary
Croupier
Jack, a young unemployed writer in London, is in a desperate financial situation. Then his father, a professional gambler, gets him a job in a casino. However, the job claims its price: stress and the temptations after work - drinks, drugs and casual sex - pull him down into the nighttime underground.
As his relationship with his girlfriend Marion is going off the rails, he meets Jani, a gambler, who knows and understands life in the casino. Jani, who has got mixed up with a gang of criminals, asks Jack to help her and offers him money in return. In the end, Jack accepts the offer giving him the prospect of the much-longed-for financial independence. Suddenly, Jani has disappeared, Marion is found dead. Writing becomes an obession for Jack. He has at last found his subject: he writes about a croupier, about himself. The book becomes a bestseller... The Croupier is a stylish and unpre-dictable story about the wheel of life, about happiness and desperation, fate and coincidence, conspiracy and Providence.
