Biography

Born in Haifa on 11.10.1950 where he studied architecture from 1971-76. He continued his studies at the University of Southern California in Berkeley in 1976, taking his doctorate in 1986. He made his first Super 8mm films in 1972 and was a soldier in the Yom Kippur War in 1973. He began working for Israeli television in 1977. After the station refused to broadcast two of his films and, having aroused substantial animosity as a result his criticism of Israel in his work, he moved to Paris in 1982. The Forum section of the Berlinale has screened films by Amos Gitaï in 1982, 1999 and 2006.
