Biography

Janina Uhse was born in Husum on October 2nd, 1989. She was still in primary school, when she played a small guest role in the TV series "Die Feuerengel" (1998). Four years later, she starred in a supporting role in the adolescence and society drama "Der Rattenkönig" (2002) as well as in three episodes of the children’s series "Die Kinder vom Alstertal" (2002/2003), where she played the love interest of one of the main characters. From 2003 through 2008, she portrayed a receptionist in the pre-watershed series "Der Landarzt" ("The Country Doctor"). Uhse gained greater popularity as Jasmin Flemming in the daily soap "Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten", a role that she played from 2008 until 2017. In addition she took on supporting roles in a number of other productions, such as in an episode of the TV series "Küstenwache" (2011), in the TV film "Leg dich nicht mit Klara an" (2017) as well as in the feature films "Unsere Zeit ist jetzt" (2016) and "High Society" (2017). In 2016, she became a brand ambassador for the French cosmetics company Lancôme and she started the web magazine "Janina and Food" on Facebook where she shares recipes and promotes products.

Janina Uhse starred in her first lead role in a feature film in Sönke Wortmann's satirical comedy "Der Vorname" ("How About Adolf?", 2018) as a pregnant woman who at a friend’s dinner party reveals she wants to name her child Adolf.

This was followed by leading roles in the tragicomedy "Betonrausch" ("Rising High", 2020) and the comedy "Berlin, Berlin – Der Kinofilm," a sequel to the early evening series that aired from 2002 to 2005; both films were released on the streaming service Netflix. Marc Rothemund's comedy "Es ist zu deinem Besten" ("It's For Your Own Good"), which had already been shot in 2019 (start: 2020), was released in theaters. In the film Uhse has a central role as a young woman whose father is determined to scare away her new boyfriend. After that, Uhse, who married in the meantime, took a short break. It wasn't until 2021 that she was back in front of the camera for Wortmann's "Der Nachname" ("Family Affairs"), a sequel to the hit film "Der Vorname." It was released in October 2022.
