Biography
Helmut Köpping, born in Graz, Austria, in 1967, mainly works as a theatre actor and director. From 1996 to 2006, he was the artistic director of the well-known Theater im Bahnhof in Graz. His productions as a theatre director include experimental stage versions of Federico Fellini’s film "E la nave va" ("And The Ship Sails On") and of Steven Spielberg’s film "Jaws" as well as productions of Ödon von Horvath’s play "Der jüngste Tag" or Franz Xaver Kroetz’s play "Der Drang". In 2002, Köpping won the Nestroy Theatre Award for his production "LKH – Eine Theatersoap".
Köpping made his debut as a movie actor in 2004 in Michael Glawogger’s comedy "Nacktschnecken". Two years later, he also made his debut as a movie director with the tragicomedy "Kotsch". In 2009, Michael Glawogger brought him back in front of the camera for two films and Köpping played leading roles in the drama "Das Vaterspiel" ("Kill Daddy Good Night") as well as in the surreal comedy "Contact High" ("Contact High: The Good, the Bad, and the Bag").
