Biography

Andreas Arnstedt, born in Gera in 1973, studied acting at the University of Film and Television "Konrad Wolf" in Babelsberg and at the Berliner Theaterverein 1990. From 1993 through 2000 he has worked at several German theatres, among them the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin and the Kleine Komödie am Max II in Munich.

His returning role as Lukas Heitz in the popular daily soap "Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten" (1994) and his portrayal of René "Zombie" Bischoff in the comedy series "Und tschüss!" (1994) made him known to a wider audience. From 2000 through 2014, he played paramedic Kai in the TV series "Küstenwache" and in addition he had regular guest appearances in TV series such as "SOKO 5113", "Die Rosenheim-Cops" and "Klinik am Alex".

Arnstedt's first feature film as director, screenwriter and producer, "Die Entbehrlichen" ("The Dispensables"), premiered at the Sao Paulo Film Festival and was awarded the prize for Best Director as well as the prize for Best Actor. The film about a boy who tries to hide his father's alcohol-related death won the special prize of the Jury at the Max-Ophüls-Preis film festival. His second feature film premiered at the Hofer Filmtage festival and was awarded the promotion prize for New German Cinema.

His next film "Short Term Memory Loss" about a professional boxer who loses his short-term memory after an accident premiered at the film festival in Zurich. Just a year later, Arnstedt's political satire "Das schaffen wir schon" (2017) had its theatrical release. The film is about an unemployed woman who shortly before the general election storms a TV studio and takes several politicians, among them Angela Merkel, hostage.
