Weltmeister

Deutschland 1993 Spielfilm

Summary

In a small town near Berlin: Alexej, son of a Russian officer's family, lives in the barracks. The accordion is his constant companion. On his expeditions through town, he gets to know Sabine in a school of music. He is fascinated by her accordion playing and follows her. The two youths develop a sensitive relationship that is thwarted, however, by outside circumstances: Alexej runs away from the barracks and hides in Berlin. On returning, he finds the barracks empty; all families have been withdrawn. Sabine intensifies her accordion playing. Her father's wish is that the accordion competition in Klingenthal becomes the start of her career. Both children react with resistance against the ideas and plans of their parents.

In his debut, Zoran Solomun describes the times of change with exact observations.
