Summary
Wolfgang Schmidt works as an advertising artist – although he is rather bad at drawing. Instead, he is really eloquent and that is why he holds several offices at the advertisement agency "Haus der Werbung". When a job in administration is put out, Schmidt′s record as well as his cool silence make a pretty good impression. Actually, Schmidt is only keeping silent because of the loss of two incisors. Thus, he gets promoted although he doesn′t even like his new job. But everything he tries to bring himself down turns out to be a success and further promotes his career. Only when Schmidt is supposed to become the general director, his lack of competence is eventually revealed. Much to his delight, he finally gets degraded. His co-worker Bessy becomes his life partner, and in the end he even gets a job that fits his eloquence: as a guide for city sightseeing tours.
