Summary
Germany, summer of 1914: Far from the horrors of World War I, 24-year-old farmer's wife Luise lives alone on a remote farm in Alsace, then part of Germany. But one day, a young French woman named Hélène, who is actually fleeing to Holland, seeks refuge with her. Soon an increasingly intimate relationship develops between the women. When German deserter Hermann also seeks refuge at the farm and falls in love with Luise, a dramatic love triangle develops.
