BEST OF ALL

I have been looking everywhere for this movie for years. It is my favourite of all times. I had it at last and have been watching it, without exaggeration, almost two or three times weekly. It is a wonderful 1959 movie. I think nobody can go through this movie without being affected by the beauty, charm and the exploding burst of talent of the young Romy Schneider in portraying Katia and the impresive role playing power of the unforgettable Curd Jürgens in portraying the consciencous Tsar Alexander II. In my opinion this movie is "Die besten von Curd Jürgens". Despite their age discrepancy, what a unique couple. Theirs was love at first glance. What an attraction they were drawn towards each other and what a great love and devotion and striking hearts. The non bona-fide ministers, their ambitions, their fears and the national loyalty of Alexander II... You are taken with the history, the scenery and the beautiful costumes. Although the movie has differences with the real history, it is basically the same. And what can I say about Jürgens' wonderful voice? Just fascinating and thrilling. The most generous thanks to these two worldstars, Curd Jürgens and Romy Schneider, for everything and especially for having left this everlasting magnificent classic movie behind, which is still admired and it sure deserves it. What a pity of fate that, more than thirty years ago, both of them passed away the same year, within a month. (May be if Schneider was a bit older their relationship in real life would have lasted not only for two weeks. Who knows what life will show us? During Schneiders' 21st birtday, when this movie had been taken, eyewitnesses had mentioned Romy's weakness for Jürgens had been obvious. In any way, none of them had talked about this commonly, neither jürgens had said a word in his autobiography, und kein bisschen weise). Curd Jürgens was a legend, he still is and he will be forever. Rest in Peace dear Jürgens and Dear Schneider...
