Summary
Young Tom has always been an eccentric. He is constantly dressed in black, preferably listens to gloomy music and has nothing in common with most of the people in his small hometown. He has been even more reclusive since his mother passed away, and the relationship to his estranged father is characterized by utter silence. The only people close to him are his grandmother Wally and his childhood friend Mike. But unlike Mike, Tom has no goals: He has just dropped out of school, and has no idea what to do with himself. However; a career counselor procures him a job in a funeral home. After some adjustment problems, Tom eventually starts to enjoy the unusual work for which proves to be perfectly suited. Moreover, he strikes up a friendship with the congenial Sarah. But then an unexpected blow of fate threatens to demoralize Tom.
