Summary

A dramatization of the English Peasants' Revolt of 1381. In 14th-century England, devastating outbreaks of plague, heavy taxes to fund the Hundred Years' War with France, and deep social inequality have made life unbearable for the common people. Rebellion breaks out, and a young peasant named Ploughman joins rebel leader Wat Tyler and preacher John Ball. Together, they march on London to negotiate with King Richard II. When the peasants' discontent erupts into violence, Richard, just 14 years old and under the thumb of his advisers, agrees to negotiate. But in such turbulent times, betrayal and death lurk around every corner.
