Summary
The Egyptian film star George Fahmy is a celebrated actor and enjoys nationwide fame as the "Pharaoh of the Screen," until his extravagant lifestyle causes him to fall out of favor with both the government and the public. Under increasing pressure and hoping to revive his stalled career, Fahmy eventually accepts the lead role in a state-funded propaganda film dramatizing the life of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The production is tightly overseen by the influential government official Dr. Mansour. As Fahmy delivers a convincing performance, he is drawn deeper and deeper into a murky web of power involving the military, intelligence services, and political manipulation. At the same time, he begins an affair with a general's wife, and soon finds himself caught in a network of lies and intrigue in which he must fear not only for his career, but for his life as well.
