70th Birthday: Arend Agthe

As a former author for the satirical magazine "Pardon" and a member of the "Gruppe Arnold Hau", it is hardly surprising that Arend Agthe began his cinema career at the end of the 1960s with humorous short films. He also shot his first "big" feature "Das Casanova-Projekt" (1981) with his Frankfurt satire colleagues. From the 1980s Agthe found his second vocation in making films for children and young people that take both the protagonists and the audience seriously and yet are fun. In these films animals often play an important role, too, for example in "Flußfahrt mit Huhn" ("Hen in a Boat", 1984), "Küken für Kairo" (1985) and "Der Sommer des Falken" ("The Summer of the Hawk", 1988). At the same time, Agthe worked for children's TV series such as "Sesame Street", "Löwenzahn" and "Siebenstein". From the 1990s onwards, the director devoted himself to more adult themes and was responsible for several "Tatort" entries with detective Bienzle, among other things. Most recently, with "Rettet Raffi!" ("My Friend Raffi") Agthe adapted his own warmhearted children's book for the big screen - a genuine hamster thriller from Hamburg for young and old alike. Today, Arend Agthe celebrates his 70th birthday and we wish him all the best!
