Biography

Adolfo Kolmerer was born on 23 Oct 1986 in Caracas, Venezuela. After completing his studies in computer science, he moved to Berlin, where he worked in various jobs. His enthusiasm for filmmaking was awakened when he visited a film set: Kolmerer learned directing as an autodidact and, from 2008, directed music videos, commercials (for Lidl and Pepsi, among others) and short films. His short film western "A time of vultures" (2012) was shown at the Fünf Seen Filmfestival in Gilching; the dystopian science fiction short film "Phoenix" (2014, co-directed with Florian Frerichs) was shown at the Landshuter Kurzfilmfestival.

Adolfo Kolmerer made his feature film debut with the experimental genre film "Schneeflöckchen" ("Snowflake"), about two murderers in Berlin in the near future who suddenly get their hands on the script of their own film. "Schneeflöckchen" was shot in 2014 as a low-budget production and premiered in September 2017 at the Munich Fantasy Filmfest. The film went on to tour numerous festivals and won several awards, among them in 2017 the Audience Award and the Jury Award for Best Director at the Ithaca Fantastic Festival (USA) as well as the Audience Award and the Breakthrough Filmmakers Award at the Chicago Cinepocalypse Genre Film Festival. In 2018 "Schneeflöckchen" was awarded Best Director and Best Film at the Negative Festival in Lake Worth (USA). The German theatrical release took place in autumn 2018, with Kolmerer also experimenting here: the film was not shown in the cinemas in a familiar manner, but could be booked by viewers as "cinema on demand" for individual cinemas.

In addition, Kolmerer continued to shoot image films and commercials (for Edeka, Caritas and BMW, among others). Together with Alexander Dannenberg he directed the low-budget thriller "Justice - Verstrickt im Netz der Macht" (2018). With the coming-of-age comedy "Abikalypse" (2019), Adolfo Kolmerer directed his second feature-length film on his own. The film tells the story of four young outsiders who want to prove themselves to their classmates by organising a massive graduation party.
