Decades after the breakup of their experimental filmmaking collective, longtime friends Charlotte, Helena, and Oskar reunite at Charlotte’s invitation. While Charlotte has built a successful career as an actress, Helena and Oskar have remained devoted to the underground art scene – and are living on the margins financially. Old tensions quickly resurface and escalate when the charismatic Rudolph enters their lives, and each of them embarks on an affair with him. Rekindling not only their arguments but also their rebellious creative spirit, the trio decides to make another Super 8 experimental film. In it, Helena plays the serial killer Demenzia, who murders a succession of men – all portrayed by Rudolph. But during filming, Rudolph is accidentally killed for real. As Charlotte, Helena, and Oskar join forces to cover up his death, their shared brush with crime unexpectedly brings them closer together again. 

The film is based on a novel by Françoise Cactus, who, before her death from cancer in 2021, formed the cult Franco-German indie pop duo Stereo Total with Brezel Göring.
