Frieder Schlaich was born in Stuttgart in 1961. He studied Visual Communication at the Academy for Fine Arts in Hamburg. He works in the cinema and theatre and has produced several shorts and documentaries with Irene von Alberti through Filmgalerie 451. His first feature film, "Paul Bowles – Halbmond" (1995), received several awards, including the German Film Critics" Prize. He has since made "Otomo" (1999).
