The Rotterdam shipping company owner Hendrik Hass has to come up with one million Gulden – on the double. He needs the money to pay off his fiancée′s father, an investor, thus fulfilling their contract. The time has come for the plan to become reality. His nephew Paul, however, has a brilliant idea: the million, even if it doesn′t exist, could be tucked into a money pouch, which would then be stolen. While Paul misleads the pursuer of the would-be thief, Haas would have enough time to actually pull the funds together.
Haas, now desperate, agrees to this crazy plan, and so begins a chase after a phantom – leading halfway around the world. Paul all the while impersonates the private detective Peter Voss. Along the way, Paul finds out that the "reputable" husband has zeroed-in on the money of his bride-to-be. In the end, more than just the bank is sunk…
