Fat World

Hagen Trinker leads the adventurous, pitiful, tragicomic life of a young city tramp: together with his pals, the occasional thief Tom, the heroin addict Liane, the lovesick alcoholic Edgar, the good-natured Gustl, the ravaged Edda, the jovial Stalin. Like them all, Hagen is more than once at rock bottom.

Then he meets Judith, a sixteen-year-old runaway and daughter of the middle classes, who wants at long last to get to know the real life. Although he instinctively fends her off, she begins through her spontaneity to break through his protective shield, and stirs long buried feelings in him. But at the very moment when the two finally come together, they are brutally separated. Hagen learns that there is always a little bit more to lose for the person who believes that they have already lost everything - but, as he gradually begins to realise, there is also something to win. He suddenly has a goal, and, slowly, the search for Judith becomes the search for himself.
