Klaus Huettmann performed as a stage actor before he took up directing. Also active as a writer, he has written the screenplays to "Berlin-Moskau" (1996), "Der schoene Tod" (2000), "Liebe und Verrat" (2001), and "Gegen jedes Risiko" (2002). "The Swimmer" ("Der Schwimmer", 2004) marks his directorial debut.
