Julia Hummer was born in Hagen (Northrhine-Westfalia) on April 24th 1980. Virtually cast from the street as a cover model for the influential youth magazine "jetzt", Julia Hummer was later discovered by director Sebastian Schipper in a café and was given a role in Schipper"s feature film debut "Absolute Giganten" (Gigantic).

After a supporting role in "Crazy", she delivered strong performances in two films by Christian Petzold: as the daughter of fugitive terrorists in "Die innere Sicherheit" (The State I Am In) and as the girl taken hostage in "Gespenster". Also pursuing a music career, Hummer, who already proved her talent as a singer/songwriter in "99 Euro Films" and Northern Star", released her first album in 2006.
