Sebastian Niemann, born June 21, 1968, in Lunenburg, began to study at Munich"s Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film (HFF) in 1994. Niemann already won a special price for "Verfolger",one of his first short films as a student, at the 1994 Brussels Fantasy Film Festival. In the following year, he and Rainer Matsutani wrote the screen play to the fantasy comedy "Nur über meine Leiche" (Over My Dead Body). After filming an episode of the TV movie "Geisterstunde", Niemann made his feature film debut as the director of the TV thriller "Das Biikenbrennen – Der Fluch des Meeres". With "Du lebst noch 7 Tage" (Seven Days to Live) and the successful TV mini-series "Das Jesus Video" (The Hunt for the Hidden Relic) Niemann build a reputation as a specialist for thriller and mystery films. In the film version of the radio play classic "Hui Buh – Das Schlossgespenst" (Hui Buh – The Castle Ghost) Niemann also tells a story of mysterious events – but this time in a rather humorous way.

With the sarcastic romantic comedy "Mord ist mein Geschäft, Liebling" (2009), Niemann returned to the feature film genre: In the film, Rick Kavanian plays a stone-cold contract killer who falls in love with a clumsy publisher"s employee (Nora Tschirner).
