Biography

Leila Albayaty was born of French-Iranian descent and studied music and architecture in France. In 2006, she released her debut album "Dans le soleil". Enrolling as a film student at the Institut des Arts de Diffusion in Brussels, she dropped out after just a few months and instead made her debut film "Vacances" (2007), a highly personal video diary about a trip through South America. Her second film, the short "Vu", screened in the short film program of the 2009 Berlin IFF. Albayaty's first feature-length film, the autobiographical road movie "Berlin Telegram", premiered at the 2012 IndieLisboa Festival and went on to win the award for Best Cinematography at the 2013 Achtung Berlin Festival. The film was released theatrically in Germany in the summer of 2014.
