For almost her whole life Charlotte has been waiting for the man whom she knows is the right one for her, Hugo, her sister′s husband. She lives her own life, survives war, husband and lover, has three children and, quite literally, a body in the cellar. At the end of her days, now aged over eighty, she meets her great love again. The fulfilment of this passion lies in its confirmation: Hugo has also realised, too late, that there was only one true love in his life.
