Synopsis
The Divine Jetta
Cheeky Jette is a typical Berlin girl. Together with her mother, she performs couplets in a Berlin suburb theatre every night. Then, a young Austrian baron, who is worshipping Jette, enables her to audition for Königstädtisches Theater. Although she at first fails with an aria from an opera, Jette wins over the hearts of the board members with her fresh style when she performs a cheeky couplet that was written by Barsch, the stage manager of the suburb theater. Jette′s performances at Königstädtisches Theater become a complete success and viewers scramble to get tickets for her shows. But the police is troubled by the disrespectful lyrics of her songs; and finally the show is banned and Jette is committed to prison.
But when the baron exerts his influence, Jette soon gets released from prison. To express her gratitude, Jette accompanies him to his castle in Tyrol. Meanwhile, Königstädtisches Theater mourns the loss of his biggest star. Barsch, who is secretly in love with Jette, comes to see her in Tyrol where Jette is desperately trying to become a dame. Now, Jette has to decide whether she wants to be a courtly baroness or to return to Berlin for a successful career as a singer at the side of Barsch.
