"Mutter Küsters Fahrt zum Himmel" (1975)
Ingrid Schmidt, born August 3, 1938, in Saarbrücken, is the sister of Trudeliese Schmidt (1943-2004). Schmidt studied psychology and pedagogics and worked as a teacher before she met Rainer Werner Fassbinder in 1968. They were married from 1970 to 1972.

In addition to several supporting parts in Fassbinder's films, Caven also played leading parts in "Der Tod der Maria Malibran" (The Death of Maria Malibran) and "Tag der Idioten" (Day of the Idiots) by Werner Schroeter or in "La Paloma" and "Schatten der Engel" (Shadow of Angels) by Daniel Schmid. From the mid-1970s on, Caven started a second career as a chanson singer and withdrew from acting to a large extent during the 1980s. The biographical novel "Ingrid Carven", written by her companion Jean-Jacques Schuhl, won the 2000 Prix Goncourt, a highly renowned French literary prize.
