In 1952, German athletes returned to compete at the Olympic Winter Games for the first time after the war. In Garmisch-Partenkirchen, flamboyant brewery owner Dorfler trains for a medal in the bobsleigh competition. Gamser, his longtime rival, and his friends also decide to take part in the qualification for the Olympics. Even their wives who are friends cannot settle the rivalry between the two bob pilots. Instead, the two teams still fight each other in Oslo, where the Olympics take place, while the head of the German delegation tries to avoid a scandal by all means.
