With filmportal.de, a central cost-free internet platform for reliable in-depth information on all German cinema films has been created. Its openly accessible and constantly updated services give a representative overview of the lively film culture in Germany - from its beginnings to the present.
By conveying facts and background information we want to make users aware of the wide range and the merits of German film. In doing so, filmportal.de also hopes to promote the popularity and the growing interest in German film at home and abroad.
filmportal.de conceives itself as work in progress: our service is constantly expanding along the same lines as the ever changing film scene in Germany. And as the different epochs of film history are gradually analyzed, our portal also gains depth. This is essentially due to the compiling and linking of the contents provided by our partners from culture, film industry and film-studies.
filmportal.de is not just a lexicon. Taking recent German productions as a starting point, it encourages a thematically or motive-oriented "stroll" through German film-history. Its "Theme Worlds" focus important aspects of German film-history, its development, its frictions; the big successes as well as the titles unjustly forgotten; the persons in front of and behind the camera.
A more extensive version of this portal is available for German-speaking users. However, the abridged English version will gradually be added to.
