Even his Georgian lover Nana can’t bring back his zest for life. It is an encounter and subsequent friendship with a young refugee girl, twelve-year-old Sashka, which enables him to rediscover laughter and a sense of responsibility for another person. Sashka lives, like most of her fellow-sufferers, desolate in a refugee camp outside Tbilisi.
