Born in Bremen in 1968, she grew up in Berlin. She studied philosophy and German language and literature in Berlin, Munich and Vienna, followed by studies at the Viennese Film Academy, where she was taught by Peter Patzak. A guest student at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin, she made her graduation film, "Mein Stern", in 2001.
