Film version of Bertolt Brecht's play: Baal, a young artist who is praised as a genius, wants to keep himself independent of the commercial art business. With no consideration for his friends, sponsors, admirers and critics he lives up to his narcissism and his thirst for life. But in the end Baal himself becomes a victim.
Actor Matthias Schweighöfer was awarded a special price for his performance as Baal at the TV-Movie Festival of Deutsche Akademie der Darstellenden Künste.
